Transboundary and International water cooperation: case studies and focus

Our side event to the UN Conference on Water will focus on the Interactive Dialogue #4​​ Water for Cooperation: Transboundary and International Water Cooperation, Cross Sectoral Cooperation, including Scientific Cooperation, and Water Across the 2030 Agenda (SDG 6.5, 6.b and SDGs 16, 17).

Presentations and workshop activities around the major themes of ID4: water resource management, water geopolitics case studies:

Asia Pacific - Dr. Farrukh Chishtie will present his work with USAID and SERVIR-Mekong in the Mekong Delta: regional geospatial tools and services ranging from drought monitoring, flood forecasting, and crop yield management.

The Americas - Ana Cristina Garcia Vasquez will present her research on US/Mexico transboundary water issues and present the Mesilla Conejos Medanos basin.

Jose Miguel Quintanilla and his Mexican counterparts will present the challenges of sharing the Usumacinta river between Guatemala and Mexico.

The Middle East - Dr. Clive Lipchin from the Arava Institute will chair a panel with his Mideast colleagues.

The Nile Basin - Dr. Asaad Y. Shamseldin (Sudan), The University of Auckland and Dr. Mohamed Hafez (Egypt), INTI International University

The event is co-organized by Climate Action Works, a project led by The Peace Innovation Institute at The Hague, and its partners the Global Greens, IEEE’s Planet Positive 2030, the New Mexico Water Resources Institute, Transboundary Groundwater Resilience Network , the Peaceful Society Science and Innovation Foundation and the Transboundary Water In-Cooperation Network (TWIN).
